WHY would you use this godforsaken OS? I categorize Plan9 users into three categories.
One that actually learnt and knows what theyre doing
One that wants to feel special (me) and feel mysterious
One that was bored and searched up new operating systems to discover.
I can assure you i still haven't left the first two categories, but the community is welcoming, people have patience* and i can observe they are happy that new people are trying the OS out. Now that also comes with consuquences, like people acting like this and the community does get tired of it, so please keep in mind that when you're asking questions try solving it first, yes it is hard finding documentation but you may have a chance to maybe fix it!
Where can i begin plan9'ing?: I suggest following the tutorials of adventuresin9's videos, for me they were clear and have most of the stuff that you need to know about 9(eg.email, EXTREME BROWSING).
My setup:
Sometime in 2025, my computation machine's motherboard decided to go on rehabilitation and just started to shut off, since then i haven't really ran 9. Because I love running my stuff on bare metal instead of some souless lifeless virtual machine, I didnt even bother virtuilize it. But alas, after not being able to find a computer i decided to virtuilize 9. Here is how i do it.
I first off shot my laptop server in the head to give it a memory wipe, after that i installed ALPINE LINUX as the server os, got virt-manager and had two virtual machines running 9front. One was for daily use, and the other was for stuff like werc(hosting this site) and discord bots, the other one was for daily usage. Sadly, i learned that making bridge interfaces was not really possible on WI-FI interfaces, so my original plan of using Drawterm was screwed. I'm pretty hopeful of convincing the family figures of allowing me to mount the laptop to the same small space of where the modem is.
